Money
There comes a time in many people’s lives where time and money becomes synonymous. Society will talk about spending money to outsource tasks to save time. A philosophy more at the core of this matter, is direction. Do you leave your house without a direction? Typically not.
You have a purpose in mind when you leave your house. This purpose gives you a natural direction. Over a short period of time, you will naturally find the shortest distance to this location if you go there regularly. You rarely find yourself driving 10 minutes in the wrong direction to the turn around and go in the right direction.
Our time and money will go in the direction that we want to go. Typically the more time and money we spend in that direction, the further and faster we go.
How does this work practically? After all, we have to save for retirement, the kids college fund, the new car fund. Also we have to work and stay late so that we can protect our jobs to survive and not become homeless.
The questions one can ask are:
How can I spend my day job in a way that gets me closer to my overarching goal? Can I start earlier and be home earlier? Can I start later and have more free time in the morning?
If there’s a task I’m all in on, how can I remove the distractions so I can increase my efficiency and speed?
When money is viewed as a lubricant instead of a goal, one realizes it’s true power. One understands how to leverage it, understands the futility of getting happy when they have lots of it or sadness when they have none of it.
Like all intermediaries, an emphasis on money is impractical.
