The Natural Occurrence of Holding Yourself to the Highest Standard

There was a moment in my journey when the realization of my death and how little time I had left became readily evident. My spirit wished to experience, to know certain truths, and acquire certain achievements.
As I saw my clock winding down, I realized I couldn’t wait anymore.
Opportunities were blowing by me, but I was not acting or ready. I was waiting for more time, resources, or stability. Those were all a farce.

Beliefs are the costliest thing in a man’s life, and I had subscribed to the belief that I had a tomorrow. This was a massive misstep in the journey.
What I wanted could be achieved and experienced now. In this very moment.

Coincidentally, I came across a quote “You don’t need more time, you need less excuses.” This laid the framework for the question. Where do I want to go? This can take a person an entire life to answer.

In brief, I must experience where I’m called to go, to know if it’s truly where I want to live.
When you have experienced something first hand, you know if you truly want it.
If something is pursued to its highest standard, the act of achieving it to that level changes you.
Being all in and pursuing excellence, is a Knowing. The actions are natural second step. The feeling of wanting to achieve the ultimate and pushing yourself to that goal, organically creates self-confidence.
Any task that is not in pursuit of that goal, becomes an opportunity cost.  That becomes your litmus test of life.
Is happy hour or watching TV more interesting than pursuing your life goal?
Is empty pleasure more stimulating than the satisfaction of learning a deeper layer of your craft?
I reckon that if the mindless dopamine draws your attention greater than your life mission, a deeper examination of your mission is warranted.

As you pursue your mission with more dedication, you naturally hold yourself to a higher standard of effort, focus, and awareness. This feeling naturally raises, just as your own internal standard of yourself.

Only when your own personal standard is elevated, will you be able to demand a higher standard from the universe.
