the Mind & the Moment

The second your mind creates a thought and your consciousness perceives it, you’re out of the moment.
The moment is that delicate. It’s like a gentle breeze or a delicate falling autumn leaf. It can and often does slip away.
The future is made in the moment, and the moment is all we have. The thoughts of the mind, the anxiety, suspicion, the self-doubt, and the pleasurable ego statements all take the consciousness away from the moment.
The moment can be experienced when the mind is off, when there are no internal thoughts. One has a chance to become aware of their space, their environment. The quality of air around them and the quality of their breath. In the moment, you can feel the intentions of the people around you. You can feel the intentions of your own presence.

In the moment, you can lose yourself in the task in front of you. All your senses are available to experience the task, person, event, or environment that sits right in front of you. With the moment, you can feel the air around you, the quality of your breath, and the space around you.

Once you know what the moment feels like, intimately, you can begin to identify all the things that take you out of the moment . All the emotions and pleasurable ego statements that pull your consciousness away from the moment.

In the moment, the Mind is off. All your sensory receptors transmit signals directly to your brain. They are perceived just as they are. No biases interfering from the mind.

In the moment, you are nothing. You have total immersion into the task ahead of you. Society often describes or calls experiencing the moment as the zone or flow state.

In this moment, you are nothing. You have a sensation of the tasks being accomplished naturally with the best results. You can act without thinking. The action is a reflection of your complete awareness of the task or the moment at hand.

Society, just with everything else, has focused on the trees and missed the forest. The zone or flow state has now become a goal. Getting into the zone is the new target. People write about it and give tips about it. They have hacks to get into the zone. This is a misstep to achieving the beautiful place of the moment. Why is it a misstep? Because it does not work. Technique-ing your way into the zone is impossible.

Achieving flow state, being in the moment, are natural occurrences. It’s like becoming wet when standing in the rain. Instead of chasing the moment, it may be worthy to examine the moment.

When does the moment naturally come to you? What activities bring out your natural internal desire to go all in? What doesn’t feel like work to you?

Better questions:
What activities take you out of flow state? Can you get rid of them? What substances, tasks, people, environments feel like work? Can you eliminate them?

Once you remove all the barriers to feel the moment, it will naturally come to you.
